…And the traveling army landed, gazed upon their surroundings, and set down their flag for camp. The horses are unmounted, the tents are set up, and scouts are being sent out to survey the surroundings for materials and any signs of people. They've done this a hundred times already and by now, it's routine. But do you really have to set up the tarp? It doesn't even look like it's going to rain. But what if it does?
B. Camp Fire
Camp is set, the sun is down, the food is made, and everyone is together to relax a little. Well, except for the two or three on guard duty right now but they'll have their time. It's time to tell stories and complain about who cooked today.
C. Down time
After scouting, hunting, or keeping watch for the last few hours, it's time to get off! Maybe you can go into town and spend some of the gold you've been saving up. Or maybe it's time to to do some private training. Or what if you actually don't have anything to do except harass the person on guard duty today?
D. Side job
Being a soldier doesn't pay very well, especially in times of war when the funds are already tight. You have to get gold some other way if you want to be able to support yourself comfortably. Maybe you're crafty and able to sell some trinkets in town. Or maybe you have enough time to take one small mercenary job while you're in town. Or maybe you're just a humble person of few material goods and you're doing charity work for free.
[As the secret weapon that had been summoned by the army's tactician, Lancer was meant to be just that - a secret - and so he waited until there was a quiet moment. The tarp had been pulled up. The boxes set aside. And that was when he appeared.]
My lord. [Replace lord with lady if you're really feeling fem!Robin. He bowed, in a knightly way.] I scouted west, as you have ordered.
( By now, the tents are at least set up but it looks like everyone is still scrambling to get things in order. Where are the potatoes this time? Has anyone seen the torches? The confusion isn't too bad and it'll probably settle down in a bit. It's to be expected and honestly, the fact that Lancer was able to perform his duties so quickly is still a surprise to Robin. )
Already? ( Gosh, the others he sent out haven't even returned yet and he wasn't expecting them to for awhile. ) That was fast.
[A+ rank agility to compensate for E rank luck. Either way, the acknowledgement of his speed was flattering. It was nice serving an honorable lord, and fortunately there wouldn't be any twists in the future which would cause this relationship to turn sour, such as an alternate universe version of his Master showing up and using alternate universe command seals to cause him to kill Chrom and then himself. Nothing of the sort.] I did. There were bandits to the northwest- do you have a map, my lord?
( Don't worry, Lancer, we'll get you some Goddess Icons and fix this asap. )
Ah, somewhere around here... ( He hasn't really finished setting up for himself either. He knows its around here somewhere... and he draws a rolled up piece of parchment and begins to smooth it out on the table in front of them. There are some marks on it from where he planned out potential places to set up camp before arriving but otherwise, it's pretty sparse. ) Here.
I was unable to get too close. I apologize, but they had a mage of some skill and I was concerned about being detected. [And actually, he does feel shame for that, but, he was supposed to be a secret weapon.] I counted at least twenty. They were camped... [Points to a spot in the fuck all section of the map. There's basically a river and not much else marked there.] -here. At least five archers, two mounted - horses, and the rest were infantry.
( The gears are turning. It might be in the middle of no where but the river is good and he taps a finger on it. )
Crossing won't be easy; if we can control the bridges, we'll have the upper hand. ( That is, if they're attacked. If they're bandits, it would be best to take them out sooner than later. He wouldn't want them to attack any of the villages in the area. ) Sending a flyer is out of the question... I'll inform Chrom and have Gaius spy on them.
( And he did sense that shameful tone earlier and he smiles at Lancer, )
If that is your wish. [They've probably had this exchange at least twice a chapter or some variation thereof and probably have gradually went from master to lord, and are now working on lord to Robin.] What else would you have of me?
That's it, really; I suppose you're free. Well, except for the keep secret part... Sorry...
I know we agreed it would be best to keep the element of surprise on our side as long as possible but I'm sure I can come up with another strategy that would let you have a little more freedom.

Thank you, Lancer, you did excellent as usual.

[Absolute. Sincerity. Robin was a good man. A good, no strings attached man that he would die for and would die happily for.]
